The

Italian Job

The last week of May is a great time of year to spend in the South Tyrol Mountains of North Italy, (although of course the Weather can be unpredictable). The riding will include lakesides, mountain passes, switch back roads and breathtaking scenery.

We will also visit the excellent & unusual HD Dealership in Bolzano and plan to take a day trip to Venice by coach.

 

We will be staying in a luxury three star hotel near Brunico. It is set in beautiful tranquil countryside and has its own swimming pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool & tennis courts. SCUK have a special half board rate of €46 pppn which includes an extensive buffet breakfast, your choice of a wide variety of evening meals, including local dishes and vegetarian options. Also included are a gala dinner, a dancing evening with traditional live music, BBQ evening, use of a special bar and a visit to a nearby disco bar.

 

There are a variety of travel possibilities depending on what date and time suits you best. Please see the info below for typical options and distances, (you may of course do your own thing completely). I suggest Option 1, the three day trip each way, as easiest on the posterior. Where conditions permit motorway speeds will be up to 75 mph and with regular comfort stops we should average 45mph.

If you prefer a different option in either direction I will arrange for you to meet up with any others. If pillion riders wish to fly to Frankfurt or Innsbruck Airports we’ll pick them up. Please feel free to contact me for more details. On the trips there and back we will be staying at the Motorcycle Loft Hotel near Bruges and at a new Motel near Frankfurt airport.

Please note:

 

The mountain roads generally have safety barriers and no sheer mountain drops, (see photo above), but still require a rider to have slow riding and tight turning skills. The approx cost for two people, (adjust for single rooms, tunnel etc); Ferry £40, MCLH £110, Motel £100, Petrol £200, Tolls £20, Hotel £380, Venice Coach £40; Total = £890 (+snacks, T shirts, shiny bits, alcohol etc). The number of hotels involved requires £50 deposit pp.

 

Flying to Innsbruck with Austrian Airlines approximate cost £200 return:

From Heathrow: 25/5 Flight OS 452 @ 09.30 to Vienna & OS 905 @ 13.40 to Innsbruck.

From Innsbruck: 31/5 Flight OS 904 @ 11.35 to Vienna & OS 461 @ 13.25 to Heathrow.
